The numbers are on the shelf, not in a binder

Most stores put a green leaf on the box and leave it there. Every tag here lists what the product emits, what it is made from, and which LEED category it counts toward. Ask at the counter and the certificate comes out.

The tags below show the format only. The products and figures on them are examples, not real stock, and get replaced with supplier data before launch.

What the fields mean

Written for whoever is holding the tag. A homeowner should not need a certification course to understand why one can of paint costs more than the other.

VOC content

Volatile organic compounds, the fumes a product releases indoors after it is installed. Lower is better, and zero means you can sleep in the room the same night. Measured in grams per litre for liquids and milligrams per cubic metre for solids.

Recycled and renewable content

How much of the product was already something else, or regrows fast enough to replace itself. Cork and bamboo regrow in years rather than decades.

LEED category

Which part of a certified project the product can count toward. EQ is indoor environmental quality, MR is materials and resources, WE is water efficiency, EA is energy and atmosphere. If you are not chasing certification you can ignore this line entirely.

Third-party tested

Somebody other than the manufacturer checked the claim. Ask at the counter and we will print the certificate with your receipt.

Chasing a certification?

Bring the drawings. We will mark up which products in the store map to which credits, and what the reviewer will ask you to document.
